CIDOC Archaeological Sites Working Group
  • CIDOC - documentation committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)
  • archaeological sites working group established in 1992 at ICOM meetings in Canada
  • 4 countries represented at first meeting
  • current membership is 49 individuals from 20 countries

 

OBJECTIVES
  • to facilitate communications between national and international bodies responsible for the recording and protection of the archaeological heritage
  • to assist countries at an early stage in developing archaeological record systems
  • to facilitate research utilizing archaeological site data

 

QUESTIONNAIRE
  • questionnaire designed to solicit information about archaeological site inventories internationally
  • more than 100 questionnaires sent out in English, French and Spanish

 

FORMAT
  • information about individual institutions
  • information about individual inventories
  • information about terminology documentation

 

RESULTS
  • 109 responses from 35 countries (95 jurisdictions)
  • 177 individual inventories
  • information about individual institutions compiled in directory format
  • information concerning individual inventories computerized for analysis
